Here is a very odd account of a young lad who happens to be the son of a respected social worker of South Mumbai. When he was young he had for his neighbour an underworld famous don who lived life kingsize and had power and authority which attracted Rashid and he built his dreams modelled on this don. From the age of 14 he was in and out of the remand homes for various petty crimes. When he reached adulthood he became a more seasoned and experienced criminal because of which his family cut off ties with him and disowned him by putting him out of their residence.
Now he was in and out of jails very frequently. On a certain day I was giving them a teaching on “Crime does not Pay” and impressed upon them that many a don has had a rise and a great fall thus ruining their lives. After the session, he had an encounter with me and he confessed that he was more than fed-up with his way of life and asked whether I could help him to go the straight way. However, he was in great fear of his opponents eliminating him. Also, he felt that if he walked free, there was every chance for the police to frame him on false cases and put him back in jail. I assured him that nothing would happen to him if he chose the right path of life. I had quite a difficult time with him to set his mind right as he was getting highly hallucinated. However, I’m sure all my hard work paid because since then, I do not see him any more in the jails.
